This episode of FOR THE PEOPLE focuses on the Secondary Education Review Project (SERP), which suggests a move towards more traditional learning and less experimentation. Fraser Kelly interviews Bette Stephenson about the SERP Report. Jane Dobell of the Ottawa Board of Education (OBE), talks about the pros and cons of the SERP Report and implementation. A promo for the television series FAME is used as a lead in to the OBE's pending decision to convert Canterbury High School into a School of the Performing Arts. An example of a school converted to a School of Performing Arts in Etobicoke is shown, along with various activities and community reactions. John King, OBE Committee Chairman appointed to look into the Canterbury High School conversion, is interviewed and discusses his report and recommendations. A look at an example of a local school's drama involvement and talent; Glashan Public School's rehearsals of "Anne of Green Gables". An interview with Jeff Morgan, head of the Music Department at Glashan, and director of "Anne", talks about the abounding young local talent and the prospects offered by a School of Performing Arts. A look at how the once controversial Equestrian Park in Nepean is doing. The Park is operating in the black and has programs geared towards everyone. It also has special programs for the physically handicapped. Interviews with Paul Akehurst, past president; Jack Bradley, Administrator; and instructor Marg Anthony are featured. The show closes with a montage of Etobicoke Performing Arts School. <30mn>
