Description :

Interview with Sherwood "Woody" Becker who discusses the background of the movement to advocate traditional government, the distrust of the Teme-Auguma Administration (TAA), and the role of Garry Potts and Joseph Katts in the court action and the Land Caution of 1973. Other topics include the "Agreement in Principle" as evidence in court, the alliance between the MK-A and the Temagami First Nation, the change of venue for court hearings from Toronto to North Bay, the establishment of the TAA in 1976 and its current strategies, the impact of the separation of Bear Island's residents on other First Nations, and the difficulty to inform other Anishnabek peoples about the ramifications of the court decision.

1. The donor's catalogue number is "GREEN 90".~2. Sherwood "Woody" Becker is a Teme-Augama Anishmabai Traditionalist Family Head and Native activist.~3. The Makonmissing Anishnawbeg (MK-A) is the self-titled term for thise who support re-establishing family government.~4. The MK-A does not recognize the structure of the Teme-Augama Anishnabai (TAA) and it was the the traditional families which initiated action for the 1973 Land Caution in co-operation with the TAA.~5. The release form for this interview indicates that Rick Stow and Sherwood (Woody) Becker agree that the interview "be available for public access and that all claims of copyright by the interviewer or interviewee are hereby waived to ensure the widest possible access for research and publication."
