Impromptu speech by John Diefenbaker, probably at Ottawa airport, delivered upon his return from the Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ Conference in London, England which was held on 26 June to 4 July 1957. There are crowd noises in the background and it ends with applause and a few cheers. He says: “I’m naturally very happy to be back home one more . . . the conference was one of the most outstanding according to those who have been present at previous conferences, that has ever taken place . . . [I am] happy to be back, honoured to have had a privilege that comes to few in one’s lifetime . . . this is an occasion never to be forgotten . . . a conference that built better than any who participated could ever have expected. Thank you very much.” <3mn>
