Lawren Harris speaks from Vancouver about art and the Group of Seven.~"Ladies and Gentlemen, last Friday evening, Dr. Jackson, the oldest living..." He talks about the slow rise of truly Canadian art as typified by the work of the Group of Seven against the traditional European methods and schools. Ends - "...lived in and painted with complete devotion to..."~"...its own character, life and spirit". He continues with the development of Canadian art by the Group of Seven, voting its closeness to Scandinavian art. Almost the entire side deals with Tom Thompson, his life and his painting, enriched with many anecdotes. Side II ends - ....pair got out all right".~"...One week on a sketching trip..." Mr. Harris reminisces about Tom Thomson, Dr. A.Y. Jackson, and their trips up north, including those they took with Dr. Banting to the Arctic. He then returns to art, describing the role and future of art in civilization in general and Canada in particular, concluding that nations must develop their own art ends - "...and then the arts of the past".~"... and of the people..." He continues to recount the struggle of the Group of Seven to achieve recognition as Canadian art, and humorously attacks critics who reversed their judgement of the Group of Seven's work when it became acceptable.~He then recounts how the work of the Group of Seven became acepted around the world as truly Canadian art. Finally he describes the origin and growth of "the Canadian Group of Painters" who are a creative Canadian art group. Ends - "...in having with the outlook its day".
