Others shown include Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, J.J. Greene, Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Paul Martin. Delegates sit down. Ontario Premier John Robarts shown. Jean Chrétien in conversation with Daniel Johnson. Delegates carrying document entitled "Federalism for the Future". Joey Smallwood says he is tremendously impressed with Trudeau. <380 feet>~Roll 2: Black and white footage of report by Ken Mason on developments at the federal-provincial conference. Among the issues discussed were French language rights and Pierre Trudeau's proposal for a charter of rights in the constitution. Trudeau and Daniel Johnson debate the extension of provincial rights. <90 feet>~Colour footage of writer [Allan Whitney] carrying sign "Another Munich Stop Appeasement", expressing his opposition to appeasing separatists by expanding French language rights. A man debates with other men opposed to French language rights outside Quebec. He expresses the opinion that learning Spanish is more importand in North America than learning French because of North American trade. He wands Quebec to separate so that it can use French as it wishes. Another man tells him to "expand his mind". Whitney says that the English people in Quebec have no rights and that he gets his tax forms only in French. Ken Mason interviews him. Whitney tells Mason that English Canadians are asleep, vegetables and gutless when it comes to fighting for their rights. <270 feet>~Colour footage of interview by Ken Mason of Norman [Chamberlist] of the Yukon Territorial Council, who feels neglected because the Minister of Northern Affairs invited the Commissioner of the Yukon Territory, but only as an observer. The Commissioner is an appointed representative. Elected representatives such as [Chamberlist] cannot get into the meetings. [Chamberlist] wants recognition of elected representatives of the Yukon and Northwest Territories. <90 feet>~Short interview by Ken Mason of Daniel Johnson. Also shown in scrum with French-language news media. Scrums in English with various delegates about the day's events, including their reaction to the expansion of French-language rights. W.A.C. Bennett makes a statement about wanting French taught in all schools in British Columbia. <355 feet>~Reel 2: Pierre Trudeau commenting that progress is being made on language rights and the entrenching of the Bill of Rights in the constitution. Delegates mingle.
