This is a radio documentary about the construction of the Alcan aluminum plant at Kitimat and the Komano power site which provides its electricity. Included are many on-site construction sounds and comments from people involved in the project. W.H. Sparks, resident engineer at Kitimat, talks about the initial survey party in the area in the spring of 1930. Walter Abrahamson, an expert on underground operations, describes the powerhouse at Komano and the construction of tunnels through the mountain. There are sounds of drilling, dynamite blasts, a dump truck and a water pump. A.O. "Oly" Strandberg, project manager for Morrison Knudson, talks about the Komano powerhouse. There are construction sounds of air compressors, power shovels, an electric hoist and a tramway going up the mountain. F.W. Reynolds of B.C. International Engineering, talks about the construction of the transmission lines. Sound of a helicopter. Members of the construction crew are "grouped around an old and slightly out of tune piano". Sounds of a dredge, bulldozers, scoop shovels, and mud going down a slough. Al Knight, chef for the crew, describes the food. Arthur Watts, camp manager, talks about the high quality of the food. Mike Shaw of the Eagle Indian band at Kitimat village, says most of his people are not concerned about interference from the project and are glad to have the new roads. Harris M. "Hal" Whiting, construction engineer, comments on construction methods at Kitimat. Construction sounds of a power saw felling a tree and a clearing ball knocking down trees. <45mn>
