Burns; his removal as Commander of the 1st Canadian Corps; Harry McCreary; General E.L.M. Burns's appointment as Chief of Staff of UNTSO in 1954; the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) in Jerusalem circa 1954-1956; Arab accusations of Canadian-Israeli bias in UNTSO; Selwyn Lloyd's visit to the Middle East in March 1956; creation of UNEF in 1956; the Suez crisis of October 1956; General E.L.M. 1. Transcript available in the Peter Stursberg fonds.~2. Recorded in General Burns' home in Manotick, Ontario for the second volume of Peter Stursberg's book on Lester B. Pearson.~3. Closed, except with permission of Peter Stursberg, until 31 December 1980.~4. There is no release form on file at Library and Archives Canada for this interview. However, the transcript indicates an understanding between interviewer and interviewee that tape recordings and transcripts will be opened for research as of the publication of the second volume of Peter Stursberg's book on Lester B. Pearson, entitled Lester Pearson and the American dilemma, published in 1980.~5. E.L.M. Burns died on 1985-09-13.
