Archival footage acquired for research and/or use in the CBC television series THE DAYS BEFORE YESTERDAY.~Reel 1, Reel G~1958 Liberal Leadership Convention. Lester B. Pearson and Louis St. Laurent join hands over heads. Clip of end of Pearson's speech. St. Laurent is deeply moved by the tribute as he hands over the leadership to Pearson.~Repeat of item #1 above.~Repeat again of item #1.~1957 Liberal election rally. Shots of Louis St. Laurent's arrival, crowd and speech. St. Laurent outlines action over past four years and deals with a heckler who yells "Oh Shut up".~CBC TV news footage - United Nations. Shots of representatives, close-up shots of Lester B. Pearson at desk and podium. Lester B. Pearson speaks at podium about a resolution to complete process of setting up an Emergency UN Force.~CB6153 - CBC TV news footage - Regina - Charles Lynch at Regina airport reports on election campaign [1957]. St. Laurent departs plane and answers questions from the news media. He states the highlight of his trip has been to see developments throughout the country. When asked about retirement plans if defeated he quickly replies - "Tommyrot". Howe, [Drew] and Paul Martin talk to news media. Diefenbaker announces to media that the Prime Minister will be going to see the Governor General as he will be and that he will not swear in the Privy Council that day.~Shot of exterior of Government House, Louis St. Laurent arrives, media waits, St. Laurent emerges and states that he has submitted his resignation but will go on taking his seat in House.
