Shot in Alaska. An Eskimo kills a reindeer, eats the meat, then uses the remains to make a sleigh. A second reindeer is used to tow him home.~The film seems to start in spring. The Eskimo round up herds of wild reindeer and herd them into a corral one mile in circumference. The corral has walls made of ice. Blocks 7 feet high and 4 feet wide are cut from a lake and hauled to the site where the corral is built. There the best reindeer are selected for sled training and the others released. According to the commentary they have been marked. They would normally be set free to breed in the spring.~The Eskimo hold a rodeo where there is racing between sleighs pulled by reindeer.~There is a ritual dance(s) where an Eskimo with two feathers in his hair beats what looks like a soap box hanging from a rope. When he is replaced, he puts the two feathers into the hair of the one who replaces him. Four Eskimos facing him beat drums which look like fans. They beat them from below with long sticks. The dance(s), costumes, and harnesses for the dog teams and reindeer are all typical of Alaska.~At the end the ocean freezing is shown. <12mn 31s>

1. The running time is based on the measured length of the nitrate print.~2. Date of release is for the New York opening.~3. Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) is the only music on the track. There is also a commentary but no live sound.~4. The film was shot at silent speed and runs too fast at sound speed. It may be footage from Rossman's 1925 fiction feature KIVALINA OF THE ICELANDS.
