Vincent Massey's arrival in Ottawa, and his installation as Governor General are reported from Ottawa by Eldon Wilcox and Thom Benson.~Massey's arrival at the Ottawa Union Station is reported, his meeting of the dignitaries, and his inspection of the Governor-General's Foot Guards. Music is played while dignitaries wait for him at the Senate.~The scene is described at the Senate Chamber, in which all present are wearing mourning dress for the late King George VI. Massey enters and his secretary reads the Royal Proclamation in English and then in French.~Vincent Massey takes the three oaths of office from Patrick Kerwin, the Senior Justice of the Supreme Court, in both English and French. He then signs the oath book, as does the Supreme Court and the clerck of the Privy Council. The pen can be heard scratching.~The Under-Secretary of State reads the Governor General's Proclamation in both English and French, after which Massey signs it. The Royal Salute is played. Louis St. Laurent addresses the Governor General, asking him to convey the nation's grief at the loss of King George VI to Queen Elizabeth, and then outlines the life of our new Governor General. He repeats this in French.~Massey then reads his address, saying that he will express the grief of Canada to her Majesty, and recalling the past Governors Generals, especially Lord Alexander.~Massey says that he will do his utmost to serve his Queen and country. He repeats this in French.~A procession forms and slowly leaves.
