Excerpts from the Rank film XIVTH OLYMPIAD - THE GLORY OF SPORT. The games open with the arrival of King George VI at Wembley Stadium. The footage shows huge crowds, the opening ceremonies, the march of the athletes, the Canadian contingent much in evidence among the parade of the athletes, the reading of the royal proclamation by the King, the torch bearer entering the stadium, Wing Commander Donald Findlay taking the oath on behalf of the competitors, the games begin, sequences on the various races, pole vaults, hammer throws, the Decathlon, the Marathon, sailing races, bicycle and rowing races, Cochran of the U.S.A. winning the 400-metre hurdle, Namath of Hungary winning the hammer throw, after a rain storm Smith of the U.S. wins the pole vault, the winner of the women's hurdles, Fanny Blankers-Koen of the Netherlands, Bill Stern winner of the men's hurdles, Bob Mathias of the U.S. winning the Decathlon, Cabrora of Argentina winning the marathon, Prince Philip starts the cycling race, and a collision sparks a pushing match between two cyclists. <35mn>
