Description :

Press conference on current conditions in Chiapas, Mexico and on negotiations between the Zapatistas and the government of Mexico held by Father Pablo Romo, Director of the Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Centre in Chiapas. Scheduled but unable to attend is Mariclaire Acosta, President of the independant Mexican Commission for the Defence and Promotion of Human Rights.~Introductory remarks are made by [Marta LaPierre] of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. Also at the conference are members of Amnesty International, the APIKAN Indigenous Network, the Inter-Church Committee on Human Rights in Latin America and the International Centre on Human Rights and Democratic Development.~Father Romo speaks in French and in Spanish (the Spanish portion is translated into English by another participant).~Questions follow. <48mn>
