This program in the CBC NEWS ROUNDUP series presents the following reports: CBC correspondent Matthew Halton reports from London, England on British reaction to foreign criticism of its position on Palestine and the tension between Britain and Israel. Prime Minister Clement Attlee held a cabinet meeting on the issue today. Halton reports the comments of various British politicians. James M. Minifie of the New York Herald Tribune reports from Washington, D.C. on Canada's participation in the biggest peacetime war exercises held by the United States. The manouevres will start in the Altantic on January 13th, 1949. Two platoons from the Royal 22nd Regiment and one platoon from the Royal Canadian Regiment will participate. In Montreal, Stephen [Brott] interviews Dr. Jacques Rousseau, field botanist and Director of the Montreal Botanical Garden, who says that it is possible to develop large reindeer herds in the Ungava region to provide a source of meat. In Calgary, Frank [Fleming] interviews Bill [Headley] of the Alberta Fish and Game Association about concerns that predators such as wolves, coyotes, cougars and humans are causing a shortage of game in the Alberta foothills. [Headley] says that professional hunters, paid by the federal or provincial governments, should be hired to reduce the population of wolves, coyotes and cougars by using snares and poison. Ken Chisholm reports from radio station CHSJ in Saint John, New Brunswick, about construction of the $3 million pier in Saint John.
