Mount Robson Park in the Canadian Rockies is home to Osborne Scott, a Rocky Mountain Ranger for the Mountain Patrol. As a "Rider of the Dawn", Scott's duties include "protecting the forest, clearing the trails and assisting the wandering tourist." These activities, along with brief meteorological notes, are diligently recorded by Scott into his logbook. The film opens with the first entry, dated July 20, 1922, recounting Scott's journey from Robson Station to Lake Kenny, where he camps at a deserted cabin. The following dawn, Scott hits the Robson Trail through Grand Forks Canyon, where he meets a tourist at Berg Lake who welcomes him into his tepee for the night. The next morning, after investigating the plaintive cries of a bear cub, Scott shows the tourist the trail up Mount Mum to see Robson Park. A porcupine greets them on the trail as they continue to hike towards Mount Robson. The next day, Scott goes to inspect the trails to Tumbling Glaciers and ice formations in Berg Lake. In an entry dated July 25, 1922, Scott and the tourist travel from Berg Lake to Emperor Falls, clearing the valley of fires and fallen trees on the way. Standing at the foot of Emperor Falls to get a close-up, the two men get soaked by spray from the immense waterfall. The film ends with Ranger Scott and the tourist sitting and watching in awe at the power and majesty of Emperor Falls. <8mn 48s>
