This is the fifth in a sub-series entitled MUSIC AND THE PEOPLE. It is the first of two programs devoted to folk music with the CBR Concert Orchestra under the direction of John Avison. Canadian soprano Judy Wright is soloist.~The orchestra performs "Meadowland", a Russian folk song first introduced by the Red Army Choir at the Paris Exposition of 1936.~Judy Wright sings "The Lady of the Rose" from the operetta "Nocturne" by Lysenko.~The orchestra plays an arrangement of Romanian folk dances by Bela Bartok.~Judy Wright sings two songs from the Ukraine: "The Sun Is Low" and "Do Not Go My Son".~The orchestra plays "Oriental Chant" by Moussorgsky.~Wright sings a popular 16th century Venetian song.~The orchestra ends with "A Prayer of Thanksgiving", a traditional Dutch song. <30mn>
