An in-depth interview with Canadian poet, Wilson Pugsley MacDonald (1880-1967). The unedited 1961 recording covers the life of the poet who was referred to once as "the Greatest Poet of the Anglo-Saxon race". Eighty-one years old at the time of recording, MacDonald reminisces about his childhood and how his mother and father influenced his life and love of poetry. This highly educated man, who stood highest in Ontario on his entrance examinations, talks on subjects such as education, segregation, Castro, royalty, income tax, Jesus, Canada-US relations, and other Canadian poets such as Pauline Johnson ("Shadow River" and "The Cornhuskers").~Macdonald, who wrote his first poem titled "Waterloo" when he was six years old, tells of the twenty years that he studied the works of Shakespeare and how he went hungry for two weeks as he was not able to sell his poetry in Canada. Turning to the US for employment, he made $800 in one day writing an advertisement for mattresses - more than he had earned in the twenty years of writing poetry. He returned to Canada to continue his love of verse and became the president of the Poetry Society of Canada.~He reads a number of his works such as "The Unconventional Easter Psalm" and "The Song of the Ski". <94mn>
