CBC television news special about the Liberal Party policy conference. Mike Duffy reports on the youth movement in the party and issues important to young people. Alf Apps talks about the role of youth in the party. Jim Coutts says that the party is not angry with young Liberals. Peter Dalgleish, Steven Lautens, and Greg Schmidt express opposition to the youth resolution passed the night before. There is also a clip of André Ouellet about the issue. Peter Mansbridge and David Halton express the opinion that the party will not wash its dirty linen in public. Next is a report on Trudeau, what he did during the convention, his plans for economic recovery, the questions he was asked during the accountability session,and this being his last convention as leader. Duffy reports on John Turner as a possible next leader of the party, including an interview of Turner. Turner states that he has left politics and has not changed his mind about that. He sympathizes with the push for more openness in the party and the feelings of the Young Liberals. Mansbridge and Halton comment on Turner and Donald MacDonald. Next is a report on the race for party president. Senator Davey Steuart introduces Iona Campagnolo. Judy Erola introduces Norman MacLeod. There are clips of the two candidates and of Campagnolo's acceptance speech. Mansbridge comments on the convention issues of nuclear disarmament and cruise missile testing in northern Alberta as well as universality. David Croll, Weatherall, Munro, Haervieux-Payette, Herb Breau, and Roland DeCornielle defeated the universality resolution. Mansbridge introduces a discussion panel consisting of Steuart and Judd Buchanan. Steuart expresses the opinion that the Liberals have to get back to the grassroots and that the private sector has to have help and encouragement.
