CBC television program with reports as follows:~Special report on the relative benefits for defence of the CF 105 Avro Arrow and the Bomarc missile. It shows the Arrow, which can attain a speed of 1404 miles per hour, the Avro taking off and in flight, and the Bomarc missile made by Boeing. The missile is shown being pulled out of a hangar and a target, which is to be destroyed later by the Bomarc, being fired. The report includes arguments against spending money on the Avro when the cost of the Bomarc is much lower.~The report entitled Focus on Formosa examines the attack on Quemoy. The United States Seventh Fleet, consisting of six aircraft carriers, patrols the waters off the island. This report inclused footage used in the network version of NEWSMAGAZINE on 21 September 1958. There are scenes of the battle on Quemoy Island, Communist jets bombarding the island, civilians leaving their homes and running for shelter, debris from bombardments, jets taking off one by one, and shots of Chiang Kai-shek and the officer commanding the Seventh Fleet.~Next are a series of reports on the news highlights of the week as follows:~The United Nations General Assembly decides not to discuss admitting Communist China to the United Nations during the present session and votes against representation by either Communist China or Nationalist China at the United Nations. There are visuals of the interior of the assembly hall during the session and the President of the General Assembly, Charles Malik.~People wounded in the bombing of Quemoy arrive on Formosa. There are visuals of the Formosa airport, planes, nurses, and ambulances.~The Algerian Government in Exile (the National Liberation Front of Algeria of FLN) is shown at its building in Cairo, Egypt. There is footage of the news conference during which Premier Ferhat Abbas presents his new ministers and reads a declaration.~Sherman Adams resigns as the top aide to President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was forced to resign after a White House panel revealed that he had received gifts and money from Bernard Goldfine, owner of a New England textile company. Part of his resignation speech is included in the report.~The report entitled Bergbau-Ausstellung : 500 Giants on Display is about an exhibition in West Germany on mining. There are visuals of a Krupp mining tower, a Drewboy machine to separate coal from rock, a model of an underground automated coal mine, new elevators for transporting miners and materials, Dr. S. Nehru and other visitors, a giant bulldozer, rail caterpillar and rail bicycle, walking props, and supports for walls.~Next is a report on the 1958 Sockeye salmon run in British Columbia. The report in entitled Biggest Year Yet for BC Sockeye. More than $38 million in salmon is caught. There are visuals of the Adams River run, the huge nylon nets being hoisted with aid of pulleys, trawlers on the sea, and fish in tanks.~The report entitled Now the FLN is Fighting Its War in France Itself is about the activities of Algerian terrorists in France. There are visuals of a fire set by terrorists at a petroleum refinery in Marseilles; Minister of Information Jacques Soustelle, his head bandaged after an attempted assissination; the home of a veteran police inspector who was shot in the Rue [Benard] by the rebels; General Charles de Gaulle; and armed officers patrolling the streets and at police headquarters. Other footage shows street cafés and traffic moving under the Arc de Triomphe.
