This film starts with a scene of a news desk where a reporter is receiving news that the sheriff is taking Bill the Cut-Throat to the penitentiary. A cameraman from the newspaper office is sent out to cover the story. The cameraman is out on the street with his camera attached to a tripod. He collides with passersby and a police officer. He turns a corner and sees a man and woman fighting. He goes to the aid of the woman but finds out, too late, that the fight scene is actually being shot for a movie. The movie cameraman is very annoyed and threatens to punch him in the face because he has ruined the scene. The newspaper cameraman remembers that he has a story to cover and hears the whistle of the train. There are close-up shots of the train whistle. He sees the sheriff handcuffed to his prisoner and asks if they will pose for a picture. The cameraman takes so long, fiddling with his camera, that the sheriff gets impatient and and thinks he is going to miss the train, so he starts to move away. A long-eared donkey appears on the scene and moves into the place that the sheriff has just left. The cameraman, without looking, takes the picture, unaware that the donkey is in it. He rushes back to the newspaper office to get the photograph processed. When the chief editor sees it, he hands it back to the cameraman and tells him he is fired. When the cameraman sees the photo, he cannot believe his eyes. The chief editor tells him not to come back unless he has a good story. The cameraman goes out into the street, looking for a story. He sees two men fighting, but by the time he has set up his camera, they have made friends again. Then he walks over to where a political party meeting is being held and tries to get some shots of the candidate, but all is in vain, as the candidate keeps moving from one place to another, and then the meeting is over. While the cameraman is walking along, he listens to two assassins planning the murder of a high official. He follows them and has his camera all ready for action, when a young lady comes along and asks him for something. By the time he returns, the assassins have thrown a bomb at a car and he is just in time to see the explosion and the auto debris. A man runs from the auto in his underwear. The cameraman does not give up. He turns down an alley and sees a thief holding up a man. He offers the thief $10 to slug the man on the head, and the thief accepts. The cameraman gets his picture and rushes back to the newspaper office. When the picture is processed, the chief editor throws the camera out the window, telling him that the man who was slugged is his father.<13mn 26s>
