Television program hosted by Knowlton Nash who introduces the day's news items:~Olympics. Canada's Olympic Association asks the government to make an early decision on the Moscow games' boycott. Includes shot of members at the Canadian Olympic Committee meeting in Ottawa. Comments by the Minister of External Affairs Mark MacGuigan and by Dick Pound, President of the Canadian Olympic Association.~Bristol. A race riot in Bristol, England. A crowd of angry blacks attack the police during a drug raid on a club in an immigrant area of Bristol. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) report includes scenes of the riot: police moving into an area with dogs; rioters throwing objects at police officers as they withdraw from an area; and firemen attempting to put out blaze of burning buildings and vehicles.~Mount St. Helens. Volcanic activity is detected by an American U-2 spy plane from Mount St. Helens in Washington. Shots of ashes rising into the sky as boiling mud is forced from the crater.~The Primaries. Report on the aftermath of primaries in Wisconsin and Kansas in which American voters return to a familiar pattern with Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan as winning candidates. Sequence in report includes statements by the defeated candidates Senator Edward Kennedy (Democrat), John Anderson (Republican) and comment by the Governor of California, Jerry Brown.~Special Report - Scripture vs Science. In four American states and in Alberta, religious groups demand that the biblical version of the creation be given equal time as science in the classroom. The report focuses on the controversial issue in the religious community of Aurora, Illinois. Sequence on Fox River Valley Church and school where children rehearse the biblical teachings on the origin of humankind. Comment by Pastor George Zarris of the Fox River Valley Church. Sequence on another Aurora church, the New England Congregational Church, with comments by Reverend Alexander Harper, who on behalf of his church, challenges these views.~Across Canada. Brief local reports on Canada with film clips including: in Churchill, Manitoba, seventy-five residents sign a petition demanding a ban on a type of experiment which recently killed three polar bears; in Edmonton, the union representing six thousand Albertan nurses announces they will hold a strike vote on April 14th; Alberta's new budget indicates no tax increase; in Vancouver, Prince Charles opens the annual meeting of the Council of World Colleges, founded by his uncle, the late Lord Louis Mountbatten. Shot of Prince Charles addressing the students.~Juno Awards. A report on the Juno Awards in Toronto including clips from the telecast presentation THE 1980 JUNO AWARDS. Winners include: France Joli (female vocalist); Trooper (rock group); Anne Murray (triple winner); the Canadian ambassador to Iran, Ken Taylor, presents an award to Burton Cummings (male vocalist of the year).
