A normal (?) family of six have the morning meal and all go off to work, except father. One of the boys, a telegraph delivery lad, grabs a loaf of bread and eats it on the run. Meanwhile father is asked to beat a giant rug which hangs from a clothes line in the back yard. Father cannot decide which stick should be used so decides, rather, to doze under the rug which hangs from the line like a tent. The daughter and mother, realizing father is not going to clean the rug, each grab a stick and start pounding - inadvertently beating father silly. They repair father to the kitchen where they are doing the washing and seat him on a chair by the fire. While wringing a sheet through a hand wringer father's chair becomes entangled and he is cartwheeled onto the floor.
