This edition of Monday Forum deals with the physical abuse of Canadian women by their partners. Reporter Janice Johnston presents statistics on abuse and interviews Detective Keith Kilshaw from the Family Violence Project in the Edmonton Police Service and "Susan", an abused wife.~An excerpt from "Crown Prince", a National Film Board production, dramatizes the effects of family violence on children. An excerpt of a government commercial is shown as an example of the provincial government's attempt to address the family abuse crisis. Interviews with three members of the Edmonton Police Service emphasize the extent of the problem.~Monday Forum host Terry Meyer introduces guests "Michelle" and "Lisa", two victims of domestic violence, and panelists Lynn Wood, Social Worker for Community and Family Services in Edmonton, Shelley Williams, Executive Director of WIN House and Staff Sergeant Bruce Billings of the Edmonton Police Service. Forum subjects include the role of the police and governments, why abused women find it difficult to leave an abusive situation, social factors contributing to the problem and the psychological makeup of abusers. <25mn>
