In the late 1940s, the vision of former Royal Canadian Air Force flight instructor Carl Agar led to the creation of Okanagan Helicopters. The history of Agar's vision and of the company he was instrumental in developing is documented in this CHBC special. Archival footage includes Canadian soldiers returning from war at the end of 1945, Agar flying the CF-FZX into Penticton on 9 August 1947, amateur footage taken in 1951 by Tommy Scheer, a former Okanagan pilot who helped give the company world-wide recognition, and an excerpt of the 1958 film "Seven League Boots", in which Agar sums up the accomplishments of the first ten years of Okanagan Helicopters. Agar's "vision" is illustrated with additional footage of helicopters adapted to take-offs and landings from mountains, speeding up the spring breakup of ice, and transporting crews and equipment to remote areas for surveying, trouble-shooting and as an air ambulance. Photos of Karl Agar with Igor Sikorski, inventor of the helicopter, and interviews of Okanagan co-founders Alf Stringer and Barney Bent, further highlight of Agar's contributions to aviation. Canadian Helicopters, shown in 1987 footage, represent a merger of five companies, including the pioneer company, Okanagan Helicopters. Helicopter pilots and Dick Everson, a former Okanagan employee now Vice-President of Canadian Helicopter Corp., are also interviewed. <30mn>
