Newsreel footage of part of a tour of inspection of the major Canadian war fronts in Italy, England and Belgium by J.L. Ralston, Minister of National Defence. It shows: Ralston speaking to soldiers of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada; Ralston speaking to Major W.J. Bright of London, Ontario; Ralston standing on the steps of the canal at Cattolica while speaking to the Seaforth Highlanders; speaking to the boys of the PPCLI in a building near Cattolica; Ralston speaking to a group of officers of the WNSR and Ralston speaking to Private W.H. Thornton of Woodstock, Nova Scotia, a member of a 4.5 medium gun crew. His tour of Canadian fronts in Italy completed, Colonel Ralston arrives in England in a Dakota plane, disembarks at Hendon airport and is welcomed by Vincent Massey, High Commissioner for Canada in the United Kingdom. Also in the welcoming party at the airport are Lieutenant General Stuart, Major General Montague and Group Captain Pearce. Before leaving the field Ralston shakes hands with the pilot and navigator, Lieutenant J.O. Brice and Flight Lieutenant M.M. Young who piloted the plane to Engand. Next, Colonel Ralston arrives in Belgium. The footage shows: Ralston greeted by Colonel Malone; Ralston and Malone talking; Ralston, war correspondent Charles Lynch and Colonel Malone talking; Ralston with crew of aircraft in which he arrived; General Guy Simmonds and Colonel Ralston; Ralston talking to Trooper A.C. Pascal of Sault Ste. Marie at the Canadian Hospital; Ralston talking to another patient, Private H.L. Methan of Halifax, as Colonel W.E. Hume of the Hospital stands nearby; Ralston speaking to Private N. Coté of Gaspé and Sister M.E. Gleadow of Dauphin Manitoba in the background; Ralston and Colonel Hume talk to Private J. Waterworth, a Royal Marine from Lisburn, Ireland, and Sergeant J.S. Anderson of Winnipeg who is in the background in the next bed; Ralston talks to Sergeant C.E. Stewart of Elmsdale, Prince Edward Island; Sergeant C.R. Stewart of a Recce in his hospital bed; Colonel Hume of General Hospital and Colonel Ralston; Hume in background as Ralston stands in entrance of the hospital building saying goodbye; also shown are Colonel Parker, Principal Matron Major M.M. MacLaren of Ottawa, Ontario and Matron Captain D. Machan of New Lowell; Ralston says goodbye to the Matrons and shakes hands with other members of the staff; Private W.J.\~Chapman of Toronto talks to Ralston during inspection; Captain J. Fransissyn of Calgary, who is in charge of the parade, escorts Ralston along the ranks; Ralston stops to talk to Sapper H. Luicier of Winnipeg; Ralston talking to Sergeant R.S. Diamond of Verdun, Quebec; and soldiers gathered around a car on which the Minister is standing and speaking after he finished the inspection.
