Compilation of American radio and television news reports about the October crisis.~Report about Montreal police receiving three telephone calls from an anonymous man claiming to represent the FLQ and offering to negotiate the release of James Cross. This is followed by a report on the funeral of Pierre Laporte the day before. The unidentified reporter notes that a machine gun muzzle protruded from the cross at the top of Notre-Dame Church in Montreal.~Robert Schakne of CBS News reports from Montreal on the history of French-English conflict in Canada. Included are clips of labour leader Michel Chartrand, Jacques Larue-Langlois, René Lévesque and Claude Ryan. Chartrand says, "if you want to know what the French-Canadians want, you'll get it in the face". Schakne points out that the French in Québec have real grievances, given that most of the wealth is owned by English Canadians and American-owned companies. While Westmount is the enclave of rich English Montrealers, the slums are inhabited mostly by French people. Lévesque is asked about the potential danger posed by the terrorists to the Parti québécois. Schakne concludes that nationalism often has little to do with logic but feeds on emotion.~A panel whose members are identified only as Steve, Charlie and Isabelle discuss the FLQ crisis, the demonstration outside the Canadian embassy in Washington by Americans protesting the War Measures Act, and the proclamation of the War Measures Act by Pierre Elliott Trudeau despite his liberal views.~British Prime Minister Edward Heath speaks to the United Nations General Assembly about internal oppression in various countries. This is followed by a brief discussion by two people one of whom is identified only as Steve, about whether the English and French in Canada hate each other, the lack of news about James Cross and whether Canadians are interested in American views on the crisis.
