Fonds consists of Harry Halton's draft autobiography up to 1951; some professional correspondence and his talks to various aviation and non-aviation groups 1978-2000. Memos about the design and production of Canadair's Challenger Jet, 1976-1984; monthly financial and production reports 1977-1982; a variety of subject files relating to the Challenger Jet 1976-1984 and Canadair Public Relations press clippings 1980, 1983-1984. Histories of the Challenger Jet including typescripts, case studies and commentaries by Halton on various monographs.

Halton, Harry, 1922-2003 : Harry Halton was born Heinz Hubsch in Pilsen Czechoslovakia in 1922, and came from a well established brewing family. In 1938 he was sent by his parents, whom he never saw again, to England, where he attended technical school at Walthamstow. After earning a diploma in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, he worked for various London engineering firms. In 1944 he married Steffi Apfelbaum. After the war he established D & H Designs Ltd. in London. He moved to Montreal in 1948, joined Canadair and worked on the North Star and on the RCAF's CF-104 and C-5 fighters. Halton designed, developed and certified the CL-215 Water Bomber, used in forest fire fighting and the CL-289 Drone surveillance aircraft. He was appointed as Executive Vice-President of Canadair in 1975 and was responsible for program management, engineering quality control, manufacturing and product support on all Canadair activities, in particular the development of the Challenger business jet. Severe cost overruns caused a political crisis for the federal government which bought had Canadair in 1976. When Canadair was transferred to the Canadian Development Investment Corp. in 1983, many of the existing executives were let go, including Harry Halton.

As the result of an operation in 1976, Halton was paralysed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. Because of this, both Harry and Steffi Halton became advocates for wheelchair and disability access. Halton was also involved in Montreal's Reform Judaism community. He received many Canadian and international aviation awards as well as being named an Officer in the Order of Canada. Harry Halton died on 17 Dec. 2003.
