Highlights of tourist attractions in Calgary, Alberta. Nesting at the foothills of the Great Canadian Rockies lies Calgary, the commercial and industrial centre of Alberta and one of the Dominion's most rapidly growing cities. Less than fifty years ago, Calgary was an isolated trading post at the juncture of the Bow and Elbow rivers. The trading post became a village. Then, as settlement increased it became a bustling western town. Today Calgary is a modern progressive city of 75,000. Despiete Calgary's rapid growth, its scenic and recreational aspects have not been forgotten. Bowness Park is typical of the city's many beauty spots and playgrounds. The Royal and ancient game has found many devotees in the city at the foothills. Situated in the heart of the great western cattle ranges, the city is probably best known to the world at large as the home of the Olympics of the Canadian cowboy. The entire city becomes imbued with the true atmosphere of the glorious old west and provides a spectacle unequalled for its picturesqueness. Daring cowboys ride bucking bronchos and wild untamed steers. Calgary is not only the centre of a vast agriculture area but of territories exceedingly rich in minerals and oil. Turner Valley bids fair to become one of the world's greatest sources of oil.
