The sub-series consists of maps that were created in the Canadian Geographical Information System under the auspices of the Canada Land Inventory (CLI). Cartographic output from the inventory was conducted at a number of different scales, 1:50 000, 1:125 000, and 1:250 000.
This group of maps includes the following: Shoreline boundaries for lakes and rivers (coverages 100,102 and 105) and their associated Watersheds (coverages 025 and 027); Agriculture (coverages 200, 202 and 205) augmented with additional information for British Columbia (coverages 201 and 203); Forestry (coverages 300, 302 and 305); Wildlife including ungulates (coverages 400 and 405); Waterfowl (coverages 500 and 505); Recreation (coverages 600 and 605), and 1996 Land Use activities (coverages 700 and 705). These maps were created in the Canada Land Data System (CLDS). The National Archives has the original CLDS binary computer files in EBCDIC format and migrated copies of the shoreline, agriculture, recreation and 1966 CLI land use coverages as PC ArcInfo coverages and ArcExport (E00) files.
The bulk of the CLI digital data were released to the public in early 1998. The maps and data were available, free of charge, on the Canadian Geospatial Data Infraestruture, GeoGratis web site. The Geogratis site and related geospatial files are currently maintained by Natural Resources Canada.
