Fonds consists of documents illustrating the life and career of Douglas Stanbury as a professional singer. Included are such documents as personal and professional correspondence, concert programmes, promotional material, press clippings and other print matter, sheet music (e.g., scores, parts, lyrics), radio scripts, photographs and drawings of Stanbury and of others.

Stanbury, Douglas, 1899-1980 : Baritone born in Toronto, Ontario, Douglas Stanbury studied music with his mother and with Otto Morando at the Canadian Academy of Music in Toronto. In 1921 he began a career as a professional singer in the United States, becoming the Capitol Theatre's first baritone soloist the following year. The artist also performed with the Chicago Civic Opera and the San Carlo Opera Company, and appeared often on radio, for example, in operas sponsored by Chase & Sanborn. He recorded a number of discs with companies such as Edison, Victor and Silvertone.
