Collection consists of two photographic series created by the group According to Us: "Portraits of Resistance: World March of Women 2000" and "Portraits of Resistance: Celebrating Women's Lives." According to Us is a diverse group of low income women who use photography to explore issues such as poverty and violence against women, to tell stories of our communities and as a tool for social change. This group is based out of Central Neighbourhood House in Toronto, and the photographs were printed by Women's Program Manager Jennifer LaFontaine.

The first series, "World March of Women 2000" documents the participation of women from around the world in two marches: the first in Ottawa, ON on October 15,2000 and the second in New York, NY, USA on October 17, 2000.

The second series, "Celebrating Women's Lives" includes portraits of women that inspired According to Us members and include portraits of Toronto City Councillor Olivia Chow, dub poet Lillian Allen, President of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women Terri Brown, martial arts teacher Veronica DeSantos, co-managers of the Toronto Women's Bookstore Anjula Gogia and May Lui, teacher Ursula Jacko, drag king Susan (Stu) Justin, labour and social justice activist Helen Kennedy, women and globalization activist Musonda Kidd, activist and filmmaker Emmy Pantin, Executive Director of Sistering Angela Robertson, artist and activist Olivia Rojas, Central Neighbourhood House's cook Gloria Shirley, National Women's Basketball coach Bev Smith and social inventor and rights activist Judith Snow.
