Documentary series based on recordings from Program Archives. This program deals with the Italian campaign. It begins with the Irving Berlin song Just My Luck. Frank Lalor talks about the activities of Canadian troops in Italy. Matthew Halton reports on a battle in a small Italian village. Lalor gives background on troop movements. Marcel Ouimet describes an attack as the sound of bombs is heard. Matthew Halton describes the First Division closing in on [Baranella] from battalion headquarters and experiences of prisoners. Halton recording of Commanding Officer of the Seaforth Highlanders dictating a telephone message on the death of one of his men. Lalor plays a clip from a another conversation recorded by Halton between an officer at headquarters and medical staff about wounded children. Art Holmes of the CBC describes his experience crossing the Mediterranean in a troop ship which was torpedoed near the Italian coast. Lalor talks about the weather in Italy and its impact on the fighting. McLelland and Halton talk about the weather creating problems for soldiers on the battlefield. Lalor talks about rest and recreation for troops during three weeks of November. Actuality of a man describing "Canada Town" or "Maple Leaf City". Lalor talks about the place where Canadian troops went to rest. Report by Marcel Ouimet describing [Arsenia] after it had been bombarded to impede the movement of German troops and supplies. The inhabitants return to search the debris of their homes. Ouimet reports on the Italians dispossessed after the attack. Lalor describes actions of the 78th British Division. Halton gives observations of the progress of British troops. Lalor talks about the British clearing a ridge. A war correspondent [Halton ?] describes the British position in battle. Lalor describes the British breaking enemy lines. Description of the aftermath of a battle. Lalor comments on the Allies' objectives in defending against the Germans. The Canadian troops needed to relieve the British. Actuality of a description of the spirit of the Allied soldiers. Lalor describes the Canadian attack by the Seaforths. Description [by Halton ?] of an attack on Ortona, the buildup to the battle and the fight itself. Lalor describes the Canadian attack on San Leonardo. The program closes with Nat King Cole singing Sunday, Monday or Always. <27mn>
