Documentary series based on recordings from Program Archives. This program deals with events of the war in the Pacific. It begins with the music G.I. Jive, played by Glenn Miller and the Army Air Force Band. Frank Lalor gives background on the situation in the Pacific in 1942, Australia, Guadalcanal and the threat posed by Japanese forces. Excerpt of speech by Franklin Delano Roosevelt about his optimism over the outcome of the battle in the South Pacific, with particular reference to New Guinea. Richard Dimbleby of the British Broadcasting Corporation reports for the program Marching On, about the first Victoria Cross to be awarded in New Guinea, to a non-commissioned officer. Frank Lalor comments on how Australia geared up for the war effort, transforming itself from an agricultural nation to an industrial nation. In an excerpt of a speech, Roosevelt pays tribute to the Australian and British forces for their aid in the South Pacific. Madame Chiang Kai-Shek addresses the U.S. House of Representatives. Roosevelt speaks to the people of America about his verbal agreement with Winston Churchill to attack Japan under certain circumstances. Winston Churchill addresses the U.S. Congress in May 1943 about the war against Japan. Lalor comments on Japan's announcement about the execution of American pilots. Archival recording of Leonard Brockington relating stories of the Japanese forces "not playing by Queensberry Rules". Lalor comments on the weakening of Japanese military strength by this period in the Second World War and the Americans gaining strength. Archival clip of [Roosevelt] commenting to Americans about their military strength. The program ends with Glenn Miller and the Army Airforce Band playing "What Do You Do in the Infantry?". <27mn>
