Fonds consists of Norman Smith's photographs taken as an amateur photographer including city views of Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City and various locations in the United States. There are also a number of photographs of flora and fauna in Canada. Some of the salon prints taken by Smith have stickers adhering to them indicating the exhibition in which they were hung. There are also photographs documenting the travels and daily lives of the Smith family at Toronto, Montreal and Lake Kashagawigamog. The textual records include various photographic publications, diplomas and award certificates received for photographic competitions. Finally there are two medals that were awarded to Smith for his photography: The Amateur Photographer & Cinematographer Award (American Amateur Photographic Salon), ca. 1938, and Tatatovaros Tourist Alliance, First International Artistic Photography Exhibit Medal, Hungary, 1938.

Smith, Norman P : Norman P. Smith was an amateur photographer who lived and worked in Toronto and Montreal. His amatuer photography activity was conducted as a member of the Toronto Camera Club and the Montreal Camera Club. He served as president of the Toronto Camera Club in 1936-37.

Norman P. Smith's photographs were published in Saturday Night, The Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail and various amatuer photography magazines. Among many other salon awards he won the prize for Exceptional Photographic Art at the World's Fair in Chicago, 1932.
