Boxes 1-6 in this accession consist of central registry files created and maintained by the Legal Services Unit in External Affairs. The records document specialized legal advice and policy direction between the Department of Justice and the Legal Services Unit. The files are maintained based on the subject content of the record or case name and/or details of the case using the Department of Justice central file classification system. Each Legal Services Unit classifies records according to the subject matter or case name. Generally the records can be categorized into four main groups: Administrative, Legal Operational, Legal Policy and Program Development. As a rule information is retrieved by name, subject, statute or term.

Boxes 7-15 in this accession are litigation files created at the headquarter of the Department of Justice.
