Part of a cowboy movie about the U.S. cavalry and Indians. It shows: a soldier who finds an Indian lying on some rocks; soldiers inside a room; intertitle "The Indians resent attempt of troopers to cut off their liquor supply:; men on horseback; men finding guns hidden in dirt; more scenes of men on horseback; troopers stopping at a ranch for the night; troopers with the women in the ranch household; officers inside with the family; Buck, a cowboy with a very large hat; more scenes of the officers dining with the ranchers; Buck placed under soldiers' guard; Buck getting reprimanded; more scenes of the officers inside and of soldiers bedding down for the night in a stable; Buck escaping from the stable while the soldiers are sleeping, as the intertitle explains "Buck Escapes"; Buck getting on a horse; intertitle reading "Massacre"; some Indians come along and kill the sleeping soldiers; attack on the ranch house; the officers who are inside shoot at their attackers as the two women cower; the men turn off the lights inside the house; Indian attackers wait outside; the Indians set fire to the house; the inhabitants escape through a secret passage and find themselves outdoors; Buck runs to an outpost and reports that he is the only one who escaped, stating that "the devils" shot or burned the rest; officers rush around and the women and others make it into the building. An intertitle reads "Retribution". There are more scenes inside the building. Buck gets captured. Abrupt cut to differently-tinted film stock of an apparently completely different film, showing an old man. This is probably intended as leader.

1. Below the head title THE BOOT LEGGER is printed H.B. Millar, Glasgow.~2. The title appears inside a diamond shape with an "S" at the bottom, in each intertitle.~3. A number of cement splices are dried out.~4. The film stock is stamped with the Selig company name.~5. Tinted sequences.~6. No end title.~7. This may be the 1-reel Selig short THE BOOTLEGGER, released 14 November 1911, directed by Hobart Bosworth, who also appeared in the cast.
