This album, comprised of 105 pages on which 626 photographs are mounted, contains photos by S.J. Bailey from the Department of Mines & Resources as a member of the Eastern Arctic Patrol. Bailey took over as Superintendent of Education after McKinnon resigned in 1950. Members of the 1948 patrol included: Dr. H. Lewis and Dr. Amyot of the Dept. of National Health and Welfare, and H. Lamberton and S.J. Bailey of the Dept. of Mines & Resources. They travelled on the M.V. Regina Polaris, one of seven small boats used to take in freight and passengers of the Eastern Arctic Patrol during the 1948 season. Photos document the benefits of the "Family Allowance" program in the Arctic. 1949 photos detail the Spring Inspection Flight and especially the culture of the Belcher Island Inuit. Members of this expedition included: Doug Wilkinson (National Film Board), Dr. Carter Storr (temporarily hired by N.W.T. administration as a visual educationalist) and Dr. R.N. Simpson (Indian Health Services). The trip was largely made by airplane. 1950 was an examination of all the Day schools in the Northwest Territores, with Bailey acting as superintendent of education. This trip was made by airplane. It is noted in the album that the negatives for all the pictures are the property of the Information Services Division of the Department of National Health and Welfare. This album provides very detailed information to accompany the photographs.
