Press conference held by the New Democratic Party, represented by Ed Broadbent, party leader, to comment on the Mulroney government's performance during the past year. In an opening statement and subsequent question period the following items are discussed: legislation passed on behalf of big business; lack of support for social legislation; the NDP's view of the demise of the Canadian Commercial Bank and the status of its depositors; opinion polls favourable to the New Democratic Party; the lowering of interest rates; lack of consistency and direction in Prime Minister Mulroney's government policy; the current arms reduction position of the Soviet Union and the United States; and the reasons for increased support for the NDP in the province of Quebec.
