Interview by Mary Jane Miller of Don Williams, executive producer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, who talks about television drama. Williams begins with an overview of his career in private radio and television, with regional drama at CBC Winnipeg, his theatrical production experience and his dual role as producer/director at the CBC. In Winnipeg, Williams was involved with live studio drama, various productions for the network, drama in school telecasts and filmed drama. He recalls the contributions of other production staff such as Jack Phillips, John Hirsch, Robert Allen and his work on productions including A BUCKET OF TEARS FOR A POUND OF JAM, DEATH OF A NOBODY, CHRISTAN, MASKEPETOON, THE MAGIC LANTERN, THE ECSTASY OF RITA JOE, LEONA and others. Since his relocation to CBC Vancouver, Williams recounts his interest in presenting an authentic image of Canadian native people and in increasing the production of anthologies in the CBC regions despite the negative impact of budgetary cuts on staff and programing in 1985.
