This reel, the final reel in the film, starts with the intertitle "For weeks Mary's mother has been troubled over a stubborn infection on Blanche's lip". Footage of a doctor looking at the girl's face and the girl looking anxious, as an older woman looks on. The next intertitle states that it is not a fever blister. Next, the doctor looks at her lip with a magnifying glass and a close-up shows a sore on her lip. The doctor asks if someone has kissed her lately. She thinks about this and the scene switches to a man kissing her. Back at the doctor's office, the doctor says that he is going to test for syphilis. She faints. The next intertitle, Off for Liberty, shows a soldier and a woman looking at a skyline, the Statute of Liberty in the distance, a group of soldiers, another shot of the statue, soldiers on the deck of a ship, the soldier and the woman walking on the deck, another ship nearby in camouflage paint, an intertitle indicating that Vera adhered faithfully to the treatment and the blood test was negative, an intertitle indicating that she is happy in the consciousness of having done her part in the world struggle, cut to a scene of a woman at work in a factory, apparently doing war work, cut to a battle scene overseas, where an advance field dressing station is in a sector in which Germans are shelling with insane fury, scene of a nurse tending to soldiers, close-up of an injured soldier, juxtaposed shots of the scene at the dressing station and artillery explosions on the battlefield, medics loading a soldier on a stretcher into an ambulance, a nurse comes out of a cavern at the dressing station, another shot of an ambulance picking up wounded, a soldier and nurse, close-up of a soldier smoking a cigarette, another ambulance with stretcher, nurse with basin, a soldier warning that the dressing station may be bombed any minute, intertitle apparently quoting the nurse stating "I'm going to stay -- you'll need someone who can put on bandages properly, soldier on stretcher, battlefield scene, nurse touches soldier on chest and asks "is there still someone else back home"", they kiss, and a crowd of civilians cheersand waving flags in a town as soldiers march in, juxtaposed with a shot of the smiling couple. <8mn>
