Speaking to the issue are: Stanley Knowles who imparts a lack of confidence in the senate; John Diefenbaker who favours the idea of the senate; Lester Pearson relates his experience of selecting members for the chamber; and Senators John Connolly, Paul Martin, Grattan O'Leary, Arthur Roebuck, Allister Grosart, John Aird, and Senate Whip Macdonald each speak in favour of the chamber but admit to the need for some improvement to the body. Sequences are shown on committees meeting to discuss an Atomic Energy of Canada issue and to grill, courtesy of Senator Grattan O'Leary, Post Master General Eric Kierans on proposed changes to postal rates.
