Series consists of watercolours by Alexander Cavalié Mercer which depict views of cities and landscapes in Ontario; Quebec; the maritimes, particularly Nova Scotia; and the State of Maine. The series consists of watercolours done while the artist was stationed in Halifax, N.S. between 1838 and 1842, including scenes of Halifax streets, the Citadel, the countryside around Halifax, the Annapolis valley, hunting, native life, and individuals whom the artist met while in Halifax. There are also views of Prince Edward Island; St. Andrew's, Fredericton, Woodstock, and Grand Falls NewBrunswick; and Houlton, Maine.
Watercolours include Dickson's Farm on the River St. Lawrence, environs of Quebec; The Basin at Chambly, Quebec. The series also contains watercolours entitled "Lake Huron 7 Sept. 1824, Mouth of the Nottawasaga R."; and "Lake Huron 8 Sept. 1824, Remains of Lt. Worsley's Blockhouse". The series contains watercolours entitled "Arisaig & Cape George, 12 July, 1839"; and "Effect of a Snow Storm, Lower Town, Quebec City, 1828"; "French River, Merigomish, 19 July 1839"; "Commons from Mc...about sunrise 22nd August 1838"; "N. In the distance the New Penetentiary appears under Princes Tower"; "From Bridge on the Common 25 June 1842" [Halifax, Nova Scotia]; "N.
