Dunnigan begins with a genealogy of the Burke and Dunnigan families. She outlines the hardships her great-grandparents experienced during their six-week sea voyage from County Mayo in 1830, the landing at Grosse Isle, Quebec, where many immigrants died, their voyage up the Ottawa River and the walk into the bush to settle on crown land grants at Mayo. She also talks about the history of the town of Mayo, originally named St. Malachy, and the original log church. Other topics include her memories of her grandfather who walked to Ottawa from Mayo twice a year, other early Irish families in the area, memories of her childhood in Mayo and her trip to County Mayo, Ireland. Dunnigan concludes with a discussion of Irish superstitions and religious traditions.Langue :EnglishDétails de l'inventaire : -
