Interview of Joan MacKay of Renfrew, Ontario, granddaughter of the Ottawa Valley timber baron Carswell. MacKay discusses her ancestors, the Carswells and the MacKays. She talks about the social life of the family when she was growing up including boating on the Bonnechere River, attending the M.J. O'Brien Opera House in Renfrew and watching the Renfrew Millionaires hockey team. She also talks about her grandfather's house in Renfrew that she lives in now - its large property and the animals her grandparents kept. MacKay remembers Charlotte Whitton, former mayor of Ottawa and close friend of her sister. Other topics include details of the family's lumbering business including their timber limits on the Petawawa River, the sawmill at Calabogie and the destruction of the family papers and belongings by vandals.
