Footage includes: rainy construction site on the CPR line along the shore of Kootenay Lake before 1933; men building railbed by hand; grader, truck, and some cars; men digging and hacking through stone by hand; some blasting and burning; and chopping with axes.~Thetis Lake, Vancouver Island: young men working on maps; large group of young men relaxing, playing ping-pong, and one young man playing the piano while others listen; the Oyster River Dining Hall, a mess hall, with men entering, sitting down, and beginning to eat.~Elk Falls, Vancouver Island: scenes from a tree planting camp during the Depression years. These camps were set up by the provincial government to occupy young men and others who were out of work. Footage of this camp includes: the men board trucks outside their huts and leave for their work area; bundles of trees are wrapped up; tents are shown in an area to be reforested; two young men saw down a dead tree; shots of tree planting; a meal is served outside at long tables; shots of Englishmen's River; young men making rustic furniture out of peeled logs; and shots of waterfalls.
