This film illustrates the intensive development that took place in 1937 in the Turner Valley oil field, Alberta. Commencing with a brief outline of the history of the great gas and oil field, the film shows a Geological Survey party mapping structural features, and the various stages of development leading up to the production of oil. Included are scenes showing drilling by various methods, running casing, cementing a well, tubing, and bringing a well into production. The subsequent process of acidization of a well, the absorption process for the recovery of naphtha, the purification process for the removal of sulphur from the gas, the building of pipelines, etc. are also illustrated. In many of the scenes the foothills of the Rocky Mountains form an effective background. <8mn>
