Series consists of records accumulated by McGeachy as an official of the Ministry of Economic Warfare and relate to economic warfare. Included are files on the Inter-Allied Committee on Post-War Requirements: memoranda, correspondence, War Cabinet documents, and reports of the Technical Advisory Committee. There are also master files of news items relating to Hitler's Germany and the state of various countries affected by the war, a file of documents from the Enemy Branch of the MEW and printed MEW intelligence reports entitled "Intelligence Weekly" circulated in small numbers to staff of the MEW. These documents were used by McGeachy to prepare reports, speeches, etc., for use in the MEW at the British Embassy in Washington. The series also includes her speeches, correspondence and financial records.

Also included are photographs and portraits. Some portraits were used in published articles about Miss McGeachy. There are portraits and photographs of her colleagues or superiors in the Ministry of Economic Warfare including: Sir Frederick Leith-Ross, Director General; Sir David Bowes-Lyon, and Sir Noel Hall, Joint Director, MEW and Minister in charge of the War Trade Department, British Embassy, Washington. There is also a signed portrait of Canadian, Sir Edward Robert Peacock who handled special missions and negotiations, both financial and otherwise, between Canada and Great Britain, and between Great Britain and the United States. Photographers include Y. Karsh, Landshoff for Harper's Bazaar, Chase of Washington, Notman James, Toronto Daily Star, etc.

Great Britain. Ministry of Economic Warfare : Established in September 1939 to perform functions similar to those of the Ministry of Blockade in World War I, the Ministry's aim was to disorganize the enemy's economy so as to prevent it from carrying on the war. Its activities included control of contraband, restriction of enemy supplies and making recommendations for aerial attack on targets most likely to affect the enemy's economy.

The Ministry of Economic Warfare was divided into two branches: General Branch and Enemy Branch. The Enemy Branch developed in 1942 into a purely intelligence organization. In April 1944, it was transferred to the Foreign Office where it became the Economic Advisory Branch. The General Branch dealt with operational aspects of the Ministry's work.

The Ministry of Economic Warfare was wound up in 1945, its residual functions passing to the new Economic Warfare Department of the Foreign Office. Records of the Ministry including those of the major committees are located in FO 837.
