Cette série témoigne des allocutions, communications, présentations et discours prononcés par Jean-Pierre Wallot depuis le début des années 60. La présente série comprend également des textes de communications scientifiques et professionnelles liées au domaine de l'histoire et des archives. Chaque dossier des années 1985 à 1996 inclusivement, période où M. Wallot est l'Archiviste national du Canada, contient une liste des allocutions présentées.
Sous les auspices des Archives nationales du Canada, les documents de cette série concernent plus particulièrement les activités reliées à la planification, aux rencontres avec le personnel, aux comités sur la culture, les communications et le patrimoine en collaboration avec d'autres instances du gouvernement fédéral et à la préparation des rapports annuels. S'y retrouvent aussi des allocutions prononcées lors d'inaugurations d'expositions, de signatures d'entente avec des donateurs et de multiples mots de bienvenue. Cette série regroupe également des discours prononcés devant de nombreux organismes, tels l'Association des archivistes du Québec (AAQ), l'Association canadienne des archivistes (ACA), le Conseil canadien des archives (CCA), la Society of American Archivists (SAA), l'Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA), mais aussi devant la Société historique du Canada (SHC) et la Société royale du Canada (SRC).
En plus des allocutions et discours, de nombreux textes à caractère scientifique émaillent la présente série de documents, notamment: "Les habitants de Montréal et de Québec (1790-1835)"; "Une spectrographie des genres de vie dans la société rurale bas-canadienne (1792-1835)"; "Évolution et éclatement du monde rural"; "Le Bas-Canada au tournant du 19e siècle : restructuration et modernisation"; " La Révolution française à travers les écrits historiques canadiens, du 19e siècle à la seconde guerre mondiale"; "Les inventaires après-décès" prononcé à l'Université de Rennes; "La Révolution française, le Canada et les Droits de l'Homme" présenté à Arles dans le cadre du Congrès France-Canada, "L'archivistique et l'histoire orale. Bilan d'un quart de siècle de réflexion méthodologique et de travaux". On retrouve également des communications présentées devant le Conseil international des archives (CIA), notamment lors de congrès internationaux tenus à Montréal (1992) et Beijing (1996), "Les Archives nationales du Canada et l'aide à la recherche en archivistique" (1990) devant le Groupe d'intervention et de recherche en archivistique (GIRA) et "La normalisation des pratiques archivistiques aux Archives nationales du Canada", ainsi que "Free Trade in Archival Ideas: the Canadian Perspective on North American Archival Development" devant la National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) et "Les grands principes internationaux concernant les migrations des archives" présenté à Roanne, France.
On y trouve donc des textes de communications scientifiques et professionnelles présentées à l'Association francophone pour le savoir (ACFAS), à la Société historique du Canada -- dont son discours présidentiel de 1983 --, à la Society of American Archivists, à l'Association of Canadian Archivists, à l'Association des archivistes du Québec, à Statistiques Canada à titre de président de la Société royale du Canada et professeur invité à l'Institut d'études canadiennes (1999) et à l'Université d'Ottawa à titre de professeur invité à l'Institut d'études canadiennes et ancien Archiviste national (1999). Les allocutions présentées aux Archives nationales du Canada concernent : la Loi sur les Archives nationales du Canada (1987), les Amis des Archives nationales, l'ouverture du Centre de conservation de Gatineau, les retraites respectives de Terry Cook et de Françoise Houle et son allocution de départ des Archives nationales du Canada, en juin 1987. Également, on y retrouve des textes d'allocutions et de discours de membres et de nouveaux membres à une réception de l'Académie des lettres du Québec (2003).
Cette série témoigne également des marques de distinction reçues par Jean-Pierre Wallot, dont des doctorats honorifiques de l'Université de Rennes (1987) et de l'Université d'Ottawa, ainsi que de sa reconnaissance comme membre émérite de l'ACFAS.
Cette série comprend des textes de communications, d'allocutions, des discours prononcés par M. Wallot et d'autres personnes; des rapports, des documents de recherche, des bulletins, de la correspondance et des photographies. On y retrouve des originaux, des copies, des notes manuscrites et 13 photographies couleur.
