Fonds consists of amateur films taken by Guthrie. The films depict a variety of military topics such as aircraft, military officers, bases across Canada and events such as Victory Bond parades. In addition, the films contain footage of air shows, early scenes of the Alaska Highway and its communities, the Winnipeg Flood of 1950, plus scenes of the Yukon Territory and the early petroleum industry in Western Canada. Of special interest is the film showing a Victory Bond Parade on Parliament Hill in 1943. The film shows soldiers marching in front of the Parliament Buildings with views of military bands, cadets and other uniformed personnel. Also of interest is Guthrie's film showing personnel associated with the Quebec Conference of 1943.

Photographic material depicts events, activities, places, units, individuals and groups associated with the career of Air Vice Marshall Kenneth MacGregor Guthrie as an officer of the Royal Flying Corps 1917-1918, the Royal Air Force 1918-1919, the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps 1919-1920, the Canadian Air Board 1920-1923, the Canadian Air Force 1923-1924, the Royal Canadian Air Force 1924-1949, Senior Staff Officer Eastern Air Command, 1939-1942; Deputy Member of the Air Staff for Plans, RCAF Headquarters, 1942-1944; Air Officer Commanding No. 2 Air Command 1944-1947; A.O.C. North West Air Command 1947-1949; and with his membership from 1949-1993 in such organizations as the World Veterans' Federation and the World War One Flyers. Other photographic material depicts: operations of Curtiss HS-2L flying boat G-CYAF of the Canadian Air Board, Stacker Lake, Que., 1921; visit of Air Vice Marshall T.A. Lawrence to various points along Canol Highway, Northwest Territories, 1945; presentation of portrait of Lt. Alan McLeod, V.C., to the school bearing his name, Winnipeg, Manitoba, 1945; presentation of A.V. Roe Award to the mother of P/O Andrew Mynarski, V.C., Winnipeg, Manitoba, 1947.

Art material consists of cartoons in various media collected or sent to Guthrie. Most pertain to his career, his military life in general, and to pre-Second World War German and Italian aggression, British foreign policy and war preparedness.

Guthrie, Kenneth MacGregor, 1900-1993 : Kenneth MacGregor Guthrie was born August 9, 1900 in Guelph, Ontario. At the age of 16, he enlisted with the Royal Flying Corps, where he was trained as a pilot, Early in 1918, he was sent overseas and saw active duty in both France and England. After the war he returned to Ottawa and in 1920 he was accepted into the Canadian Air Force, with a commission as a pilot officer. He put in many hours flying in northern Canada on forest fire patrols, doing hand-held photography and flying to drop fuel and food to remote lakes and rivers.

In 1938 Guthrie became Commanding Officer of the RCAF Base, Rockcliffe. In 1942, he was sent to HQ Western Air Command, Victoria, to help organize West Coast air defences, then back to AFHQ Ottawa as Chief Planner for the RCAF. He took part in planning the defence of the St. Lawrence and Gaspe against U-boat attacks. Ken returned to Winnipeg in 1944 and was promoted to Air Vice-Marshal. Early in 1946, he was sent to Edmonton, to head up a newly formed command.

Guthrie retired from the military in late 1949 at Edmonton and immediately became involved in the oil and natural gas industry. Also in 1949, he became a founding member of the newly formed RCAF Association, eventually serving as its National President. In 1956 he was elected as Chair of the World Veterans Federation (WVF) Council. Later in the 1950s, he became active in federal politics at the constituency level. In 1963 he retired from active oil work.

For his World War II service, Guthrie was awarded the Companion of the Order of the Bath, Commander of the British Empire and the U.S. Legion of Merit. He also received several awards for his work on behalf of veterans including the WVF's Medal of Merit.

Guthrie died March 13, 1993.
