This fonds consists primarily of: correspondence between Ota Hora and other members of the Czechoslovak exile community; correspondence on subjects of interest to Ota Hora plus related documentation; articles, letters to the editor and other material relating to the situation in Czechoslovakia; correspondence with, reports, programs, and other records of organizations in which Ota Hora was active or interested; periodicals; radio scripts.

Hora, Ota, 1909-1997 : Ota Hora was born in Goleuv Jenikor, Czechoslovakia, on November 26, 1909, and died in Ottawa on December 1, 1997. He began his political career during the first Czechoslovak Republic as a member of the National Social Party and became a leader among the Party's youth. During World War II, Hora participated in the anti-Nazi resistence movement, including the group of General Luza called "R-3". As a result, he received a silver medal, first class merit, from President Benes after the end of the war.

Between 1945 and 1948 Ota Hora was a founder and leader of the some 200,000 strong youth section of the National Social Party. As a member of Parliament, he was one of the few members who had the courage to openly speak on the illegal activities of the Communist Party. After the communist coup in February, 1948, he was sentenced to death in absentia for his anti-communist activities.

As an emigré, Ota Hora became a vigourous opponent of communism, carrying on the fight through Czechoslovak exile organizations, as well as through contributions to the Canadian press and exile Czechoslovak periodicals. After 1948, he also worked tirelessly to assist thousands of political refugees from Czechoslovakia.
