Fonds consists of sound recordings broadcast and/or produced by CFRA. Includes an interview with Stephen Truscott by broadcaster Brian Thomas; episodes of the telephone call-in series Green line, hosted by Lowell Green; and recordings of news, sports, speeches, editorials and year-end specials.

CFRA (Radio station : Ottawa, Ont.) : AM radio station CFRA began broadcasting from Ottawa on May 3, 1947. It was started by Frank Ryan, who had previously worked in advertising and publishing as well as broadcasting. During its first couple of decades, CFRA produced and broadcast programs for both city residents and the outlying rural areas, reflecting Ryan's interest in agriculture. The station's first employees were Ryan and his wife Kathleen, who both had on-air duties, program director Brian Hodgkinson, Michael Hopkins, sportscaster Tom Foley, newscaster Terry Kielty, and announcer Fred Davis. Frank Ryan did the Farmer's Notebook series while his wife Kathleen Whitton Ryan wrote and hosted The Better Half, a series for women. In 1955 the corporate name changed to CFRA Ltd. Its subsidiary FM station CFMO went on the air in 1959 with an easy-listening format. After Frank Ryan died in 1965, his wife Kathleen (died in 1995) took over ownership of the company, by that time known as CFRA Broadcasting Ltd. In 1966 the corporate name changed to Radio Station CFRA Ltd. 1967. CFRA ceased to be locally-owned in 1968, when CHUM Ltd. bought both CFRA and CFMO. In 1984 CFRA and CFMO became a division of CHUM Ltd. In 1986, CFRA switched from playing adult contemporary music to a soft rock format. In 1992 CFMO ceased operation and was replaced at the same frequency by KOOL-FM. In 1993, CFRA switched to an all-talk format, with a mix of news, sports and call-in talk shows.
